RUM & ROOTS SELECTED FOR AI FOR GOOD FESTIVAL 2026

Harare, Zimbabwe — 4 July 2026 — Award-winning Zimbabwean filmmaker Adelaide ‘Segan’ Ganyani is proud to announce that her AI-generated short film RUM & ROOTS has been officially selected for screening at the AI for Good Film Festival 2026.

The screening will take place on 9 July 2026 as part of the global AI for Good initiative convened by the International Telecommunication Union [ITU].

Titled “Where Tradition, Wine and Wilderness Unite Us”, RUM & ROOTS is set in rural Hwange, Zimbabwe. The film follows Zuri, a Black American explorer, and Tinashe, a young villager reviving his family’s traditional baobab winemaking. It explores themes of heritage, identity, and ancestral memory — blending Zimbabwean storytelling with AI-driven filmmaking.

This selection follows the film’s successful showcase at London’s Africa Film Festival, marking another milestone in bringing authentic African narratives to international platforms.

“This is a celebration of Zimbabwean culture, innovation, and the power of storytelling,” said Adelaide Ganyani. “RUM & ROOTS proves that African stories told with technology and heart can resonate globally. Jeff Bezos Highlights AI’s Role in Manufacturing and Space at VivaTech Paris

Paris, France – At the VivaTech conference in Paris, Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and Blue Origin, addressed global leaders on the future of artificial intelligence, manufacturing, and space exploration.

Bezos stated that artificial intelligence will not replace workers but will instead create a labor shortage by driving higher demand for skilled labor and new forms of production. “AI is going to create a labor shortage,” he said, dismissing concerns over widespread job losses.

He also highlighted two key ventures shaping this future:

    1. *Blue Origin* – Bezos’s aerospace company continues to advance reusable rocket technology to compete with SpaceX, with the goal of making space travel reliable and cost-effective.
    2. *Prometheus* – An AI startup focused on accelerating manufacturing. Prometheus aims to streamline production processes, reduce costs, and increase precision, making it easier to turn ideas into physical products at scale.

On the long-term vision, Bezos explained that cheaper and more reliable space access will enable materials to be sourced from asteroids, near-Earth objects, and the moon. “If space travel gets reliable enough and inexpensive enough, and we can get materials from asteroids and near-Earth objects and the moon, then this garden planet can be returned to its pre-Industrial Revolution state,” Bezos said.

The remarks underscore a broader strategy linking AI-driven manufacturing with off-world resource utilization to expand economic capacity while reducing Earth’s industrial footprint.

Obama Presidential Center Opens in Chicago

The Obama Presidential Center officially opened Thursday, June 18, on Chicago’s lakefront with a ceremony attended by former presidents, world leaders, and global cultural figures.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama hosted the event alongside their daughters Malia and Sasha Obama. They were joined by former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Joe Biden. Also present were former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Christina Aguilera.

The $850 million campus spans 19.3 acres in historic Jackson Park along Lake Michigan. At its core is a museum dedicated to Obama’s life and presidency, surrounded by public gathering spaces, gardens, and facilities for civic programs.

What it’s about & the legacy behind it:

The center is designed to extend the Obamas’ focus on civic engagement, leadership development, and community investment. It aims to train the next generation of leaders while anchoring renewal in Chicago’s South Side through jobs, public space, and cultural access. Powerful Gathering of Women Leaders Hosted by Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa Leaves Lasting Impact

Harare, Zimbabwe — Some rooms leave you inspired. Some rooms leave you grateful. This past weekend’s gathering did both.

Hosted by renowned broadcaster Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa, the event brought together remarkable women from across Africa and the diaspora for a day of honest conversation, healing, and empowerment. Attendees flew in from Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria, Dubai, the UK, and the USA to be part of the experience in Zimbabwe.

"To stand before a room of remarkable women and help steward conversations that matter was an honour," Ruvheneko shared in her reflections after the event. She extended gratitude to Nyenge and Aunt Pet for the trust placed in her to lead the weekend.

The speaker lineup was described as phenomenal, powerful, professional and deeply inspiring. The highlight for many was the presence of Guest of Honour Mrs. Tsitsi Masiyiwa, whose wisdom, authenticity, and conviction left the room visibly moved.
"What a woman. Your wisdom, authenticity and conviction left the entire room richer. Thank you for pouring so generously into us," Ruvheneko said.

Organizers noted that the energy in the room transformed the day from a standard event into something far deeper.
"To every woman who attended: your energy, vulnerability, grace and honesty transformed the day from an event into an experience!"

The message closed with a note of encouragement for women everywhere:
"And to every woman reading this—healing while having to show up, grieving while having to love, building while quietly breaking inside—keep going. God is not done. "

The weekend has already sparked conversations online about the need for more spaces where African women can lead, heal, and build together.
