RUM & ROOTS SELECTED FOR AI FOR GOOD FESTIVAL 2026

Harare, Zimbabwe — 4 July 2026 — Award-winning Zimbabwean filmmaker Adelaide ‘Segan’ Ganyani is proud to announce that her AI-generated short film RUM & ROOTS has been officially selected for screening at the AI for Good Film Festival 2026.

The screening will take place on 9 July 2026 as part of the global AI for Good initiative convened by the International Telecommunication Union [ITU].

Titled “Where Tradition, Wine and Wilderness Unite Us”, RUM & ROOTS is set in rural Hwange, Zimbabwe. The film follows Zuri, a Black American explorer, and Tinashe, a young villager reviving his family’s traditional baobab winemaking. It explores themes of heritage, identity, and ancestral memory — blending Zimbabwean storytelling with AI-driven filmmaking.

This selection follows the film’s successful showcase at London’s Africa Film Festival, marking another milestone in bringing authentic African narratives to international platforms.

“This is a celebration of Zimbabwean culture, innovation, and the power of storytelling,” said Adelaide Ganyani. “RUM & ROOTS proves that African stories told with technology and heart can resonate globally. I dedicate this to every young creative in Zimbabwe and across Africa who dares to dream.”

  • PANEL SPOTLIGHT: CULTURE IN A GLASS

At the INDYWOOD INTERNATIONAL AI CINEFEST, Adelaide Segan Ganyani will speak on the cultural heartbeat of Rum & Roots — how African tradition, story, and identity come alive through new technology.

She’ll explore the role of TRADITIONAL BAOBAB WINE in the film: a sacred, rum-infused elixir rooted in the ancestral “round” of Great Ancestor Nhaka, reimagined through modern winemaking. Through Tinashe’s journey in Hwange, the wine becomes a symbol of cultural continuity — where heritage meets innovation, and Zimbabwean identity stays rooted while evolving.

This is African storytelling powered by AI, grounded in soil, craft, and legacy.
