As the curtain came down on the three-day National Disability Expo at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo Province today, we reflect on three inspiring days of innovation, inclusion, collaboration and empowerment.

The Disability Expo 2026 was officially launched by the Hon. Vice President Dr. K. D. C. Mohadi this afternoon.
It provided a valuable platform to showcase the talents, resilience and entrepreneurial potential of persons with disabilities, while strengthening partnerships that promote inclusive socio-economic development through #MSMEs, cooperatives, #genderequality and #CommunityEmpowerment.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all exhibitors, stakeholders, development partners and members of the public who visited our stand and contributed to the success of this important national event.

The Sunrise Campaign, in partnership with the Knysna Social Development Section, successfully hosted a Human Rights Awareness Campaign at Hornlee Community Hall, bringing together government departments, civil society organisations, law enforcement, entrepreneurs, and community members.

The event provided valuable information on human rights, disability inclusion, victim empowerment, and support services available to community members. Participants were inspired by powerful testimonies from Sunrise Campaign beneficiaries.

GENDER DIVISION WELCOMES SUBCIZ AWARD

The Gender Division has commended the Standing Up for Boy Child Initiative Zambia (SUBCIZ) for its efforts to promote gender equality and inclusive development for both boys and girls. This follows a courtesy call by the organisation to present the Gender Equality and Inclusion Champion Award, which was conferred by South Africa’s Go Getters Movement Organisation on 23rd May, 2026 in recognition of collaborative efforts to advance gender equality across Africa.

SUBCIZ Founder and CEO, Ms. Mildred Chinyanta Nyirenda, dedicated the award to President Hakainde Hichilema for his commitment to ensuring that the boy child is not left behind. She noted that the organisation was established to address challenges affecting boys and young men, including mental health issues, substance abuse, poor academic performance, and high school dropout rates.

Speaking on behalf of Gender Division Permanent Secretary Mainga Kabika, Acting Permanent Secretary Andrea Habweza praised SUBCIZ for complementing government efforts to provide equal opportunities for all children regardless of gender. He reaffirmed government's commitment to a balanced approach to gender equity and pledged continued collaboration with stakeholders supporting the empowerment and development of both boys and girls.

Zimbabwe’s election to the United Nations Security Council is a significant diplomatic milestone that provides an opportunity for the country to champion the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda from an African perspective. It enables Zimbabwe to advocate for women’s meaningful participation in peace and security processes, strengthen efforts to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, and promote gender-responsive peacebuilding initiatives. To advance the WPS Agenda, critical issues requiring attention include the underrepresentation of women in peace processes, persistent gender-based violence, inadequate funding for WPS programmes, weak institutional coordination, climate change impacts, limited inclusion of young women in peacebuilding, data and accountability gaps, and the need to strengthen grassroots women’s peacebuilding networks.

Stakeholders Endorse Dedicated SACCO Law to Strengthen Financial Inclusion

The Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development today convened a Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) Bill Principles Validation Workshop in Harare, bringing together key stakeholders to validate proposals for a dedicated legal and regulatory framework for the SACCO sector.

Speaking at the workshop, Permanent Secretary Dr Mavis Sibanda said the event marked a significant milestone in the legislative roadmap towards the development of the SACCOs Bill. She noted that the proposed legislation seeks to strengthen governance, protect members' savings, promote financial sustainability and position SACCOs as key drivers of financial inclusion and economic empowerment.

The workshop validated findings from extensive nationwide consultations and lessons drawn from a study tour to Kenya, whose SACCO regulatory framework is recognised as one of the most successful in Africa.

Stakeholders agreed on the need for a dedicated SACCO law to address regulatory gaps, strengthen supervision, enhance consumer protection and unlock the full potential of SACCOs in supporting Zimbabwe's National Development Strategy 1 and Vision 2030.

The proposed Bill Principles include improved governance and accountability, prudential regulation, consumer protection, digital financial services, financial safety nets, deposit protection mechanisms and the establishment of a dedicated regulatory authority.

The workshop was supported by the World Bank and attended by representatives from Government, SACCOs, development partners and financial sector institutions

Zimbabwe–Belarus Ties Soar as Brest Engagements Cement Strategic Partnership

Zimbabwe and Belarus have reaffirmed their deepening bilateral ties following a series of high-level engagements in the Brest Region, culminating in a strong show of diplomacy, business cooperation, and cultural exchange.

Honourable Deputy Minister of Women Affairs, Community and Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Kiven Mutimbanyoka representing the Minister Honourable Monica Mutsvangwa, held a strategic bilateral meeting with Brest Regional Executive Committee Chairman, Petr Parkhomchik. The discussions underscored shared priorities of industrial growth, job creation, and inclusive economic development, with Zimbabwe’s MSME-driven transformation agenda receiving strong commendation.

The engagement builds on the momentum of the State Visit by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa to Belarus in May 2025, which resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and the Cooperation Roadmap for 2026–2030. Both sides committed to operationalising these agreements through a structured implementation framework to ensure tangible and measurable outcomes.

Hon. Mutimbanyoka, accompanied by Ambassador Ignatius Graham Mudzimba, also toured industrial exhibition centres showcasing advanced Belarusian manufacturing, particularly in agricultural mechanisation. Engagements with industry players highlighted opportunities for technology transfer, joint ventures, and the establishment of local assembly plants in Zimbabwe—initiatives expected to boost productivity, create jobs, and strengthen SME capacity.

The delegation also visited the Brest Hero-Fortress Memorial Complex, symbolising shared values of resilience, sovereignty, and national pride, and toured cultural sites that demonstrated how heritage, tourism, and community enterprises can drive rural industrialisation and economic inclusion.

The engagements in Brest not only reinforced diplomatic ties but also demonstrated a shared commitment to translating policy into action, positioning both countries for enhanced collaboration in industrial development, MSME growth, and cultural exchange.
