Rushinga Rural District Council is strategically located in Mashonaland Central Province, and is comprised of rural areas such as Nyamatikiti, Rushinga, Chimhanda, and Rusambo. It has 25 wards, 18,568 households with an average household size of 4.1.
The major livelihoods activities of the people of Rushinga are agrarian-based, crops like cotton and maize. Other sources of livelihood include selling fish from neighbouring Mozambique and gold panning. The council is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local authorities, mentored by Bindura RDC.

Today the local authority engaged the local leadership to find a solution to the scourge of makorokoza who have destroyed Gwangwava Secondary school ground.The entire leadership bemoned the destruction of their children and grandchildrens heritage.It was noted that this was being caused by known local people in ward 14 &13 who then sell to some local unregistered buyers. Construction of two classroom blocks at Katakura Secondary School which started in late Nov 2020 are now complete.The council is focused to fulfil Vision 2030 by ensuring that children in the district have access to quality education. This project was funded by Devolution funds and World Vision. The community also contributed immensily with all locally available resources and labour.
