The City of Harare has in the past few days been engaged in pothole tar patching in the city as we strive to improve our roads.

The roads attended to in the past few days include:
Mabelreign Area, Sherwood Drive to Lachmore Road, Blackstone and Baines Avenue in the Avenues area, Corner Solomon Mujuru and Tynwald Road, Scamway Road, Hatcliffe and Highfield Road.

Harare’s water infrastructure serves a population of about 3.4 million people across the greater Harare province, Mayor Cllr Jacob Mafume has said, responding to inquiries on the city’s water challenges.

Speaking on the issue, Mayor Mafume said Harare’s water works supplies Harare City itself, Chitungwiza, Epworth, Ruwa and Norton.

The Mayor paid tribute to government and specifically the Ministry of Water for constructing Kunzvi Dam. He said the last dam built for Harare was Morton Jaffray in 1976, and he is encouraged that the Kunzvi Dam project is now nearing completion.

Mayor Mafume hinted that more dams will still be needed to meet rising demand. He said once completed, Kunzvi Dam will benefit areas including Mabvuku, Greendale, Highlands, Epworth and mostly the eastern parts of the city, and should go a long way to improving the water crisis in greater Harare.
Government’s investment in Kunzvi Dam forms part of broader efforts to expand water sources and improve supply reliability for Harare and surrounding towns.

Mayor Mafume Congratulates New Mayor of Cheonan City in South Korea on Election Win

His Worship the Mayor Cllr Jacob Mafume, has extended official congratulations to Mayor Jang Gi Soo following his election as Mayor of Cheonan City, Republic of Korea, in the 9th Nationwide Simultaneous Local Elections held recently.

In a congratulatory message, Mayor Mafume, speaking on behalf of the City of Harare, the Councillors, management and residents of Harare, welcomed Mayor Jang’s assumption of office and his forthcoming inauguration.

Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume Joins Belarus Embassy to Commemorate 85th Anniversary of Great Patriotic War.

Harare Mayor Cllr Jacob Mafume yesterday joined the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Harare for a commemorative event marking the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. The ceremony took place on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 15:00 PM at the Belarusian Embassy in Harare.

The event opened with a minute of silence to honor the millions of victims who lost their lives during the war between 1941 and 1945. The Great Patriotic War remains a defining moment in Belarusian history, with Belarus losing nearly a third of its population during the conflict.

The programme included official remarks by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Zimbabwe H.E. Yury Nikalaichyk and Defense Attaché Col. Sergei Syomin. Both spoke on the historical significance of the war, the lessons of resilience and sacrifice, and the importance of preserving the memory of those who fought for freedom. They also highlighted the strengthening ties between Belarus and Zimbabwe, noting cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

A key highlight of the commemoration was the unveiling of a commemorative plaque dedicated to the 85th anniversary. The plaque will serve as a lasting tribute to the courage of soldiers and civilians who endured the war.

In his remarks, Mayor Mafume also acknowledged Belarus’ ongoing support to the City of Harare. He noted that Harare has benefited from tractors and fire tenders supplied by Belarus, equipment that is currently in use and improving service delivery for residents.

Mayor Mafume’s attendance underscored the City of Harare’s commitment to international solidarity and respect for shared histories of struggle. The event brought together embassy officials, members of the diplomatic corps, Zimbabwean government representatives, war veterans, and members of the Belarusian community resident in Zimbabwe.
