The City of Bulawayo on Wednesday presented to the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Honourable Judith Ncube, and members of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) the interventions it intends to implement in the management of the Richmond Landfill, as well as measures to address the challenges of illegal vending in the city.

A City of Bulawayo delegation led by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Edwin Ndlovu, and the Town Clerk, Mr Christopher Dube, presented to Minister Ncube’s entourage how the City seeks to resolve the challenges affecting the Landfill Site through partnering with the private sector in its management.
Mr Dube stated that partnering with the private sector in the management of the Landfill is in line with policy directions from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works.

The Town Clerk also took the delegation to some of the illegal vending sites and the proposed areas where the City intends to relocate all informal traders, following research conducted to ascertain the number of those operating illegally.

In concurrence with Minister Ncube, it was resolved that the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, the City of Bulawayo, as well as relevant stakeholders, would hold an emergency planning meeting on how to relocate informal traders to designated places, as the prevailing situation could not be allowed to continue

The City of Bulawayo welcomed ultra-marathon runner Miss Nobukhosi Nobuhle Tshuma, who became the first black Zimbabwean to achieve a podium finish in the 2026 Comrades Marathon in South Africa.

Tshuma was welcomed by His Worship Senator David Coltart, the Mayor, and Human Capital Director Mr Makhosi Tshalebwa, who was standing in for the Town Clerk, Mr Christopher Dube.

Also present was the Deputy Director of Human Resources, Mrs S Mlilo in the Office of the President and Cabinet Bulawayo Metropolitan Province who represented the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Judith Ncube.

Miss Tshuma received a shower of praises from the City and Provincial leadership for putting Bulawayo and Zimbabwe on the map.

Senator Coltart handed a commemorative citation to Tshuma in honour of her sterling performance as an athlete, highlighting that Bulawayo can become the country’s hub for sporting excellence as it has facilities for various sporting disciplines. He added that sport can be an economic enabler in Bulawayo.

Minister Ncube also praised Miss Tshuma, saying she has become a symbol of hope that when one commits themselves, they can achieve greatness.

Miss Tshuma narrated how she persevered through hardships to secure a podium finish while carrying the nation’s pride.
It took her 5 hours, 53 minutes and 36 seconds to complete the 86km Comrades Marathon race.

The Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Legacy Project and various partners facilitated her flight from South Africa to Bulawayo.
City of Bulawayo Councillors and Heads of Council Departments were also part of the delegation that received Miss Tshuma as well as various athletic associations and Bulawayo running clubs

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Judith Ncube, and members of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) Bulawayo Metropolitan Province on Tuesday toured major infrastructure projects , including road construction works along Matopos Road and Lobengula Street.

The assessment visit was aimed at identifying opportunities and challenges affecting service delivery in the city.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development is overseeing construction works on Matopos Road, while the City of Bulawayo is undertaking the reconstruction of Lobengula Street.

During the tour of the Matopos Road, officials revealed that the project is expected to be completed by 3 July, after which the road will be reopened to the motoring public.

The delegation also visited a section of Lobengula Street and 3rd Avenue, where they observed progress of the ongoing works. 3rd Avenue Extension and Lobengula Street from 3rd to 4th Avenue has already been reconstructed, giving the road a lifespan of up to 20 years.

Acting Director of Works Engineer Methusi Dibidi briefed the delegation on progress made on the road projects and provided an update on other initiatives being implemented across the city. He noted that shortages of equipment remain one of the key challenges affecting the execution of some projects.

In response, Minister Ncube said she would continue lobbying Central Government for the release of the 2025 Devolution Funds, which she said are critical for recapitalisation projects and the procurement of a new vehicle fleet to improve service delivery in Bulawayo, including road works.

The Local Authorities Pension Fund (LAPF) opened a Customer Services Office in Bulawayo to serve LAPF members in Bulawayo and Matabeleland region.
The office is situated at the LAPF House along 8th Avenue between Fife Street and Jason Moyo Street.

Speaking during the opening of the offices, the City of Bulawayo Town Clerk Mr Christopher Dube, commended LAPF for the initiative saying it was important that the offices are opened locally. He noted that the City of Bulawayo is the second highest contributor to LAPF hence the need to bring services closer to clients.

Mr Dube said it was encouraging to see LAPF improving on the welfare of pensioners, stating that it was critical that pensioners are looked after very well as all employees will end up being pensioners.

He also encouraged LAPF to continue making Bulawayo an investment destination as it has several property investments in Bulawayo.

The opening of the offices was attended by LAPF board members and senior management as well as Bulawayo based LAPF pensioners who expressed gratitude for having the Customer Services Office opened in Bulawayo.

The opening of the offices will address challenges where the City used to serve as an intermediary between LAPF and pensioners, whereas members were expecting to receive services directly from the pension fund
