The Cooperator — Building Africa’s Future Through Cooperative Finance

Anchor Sponsor: Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank (ZWMB)

Introduction

The Cooperator is a digital magazine redefining the conversation on Cooperative Finance in Africa. Hosted on allWomen.africa and coops.africa, and proudly anchored by the Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank (ZWMB), the magazine serves as a knowledge hub and marketplace for cooperative growth, financial inclusion, and capital formation.

It is not just a publication—it is a movement that seeks to professionalize and expand cooperative finance as a viable, sustainable, and profitable investment discipline for Africa’s social and economic transformation.

A New Voice for Cooperative Finance

Africa’s cooperative movement has long stood at the heart of community development, empowering millions through shared ownership and mutual support. Yet, access to capital and structured financial markets has often lagged behind. The Cooperator bridges that gap by promoting awareness, transparency, and participation in cooperative investments—especially through the Co-operative Debenture Exchange (CDE).

Once fully licensed as a securities exchange, the CDE will allow cooperatives to issue and trade Cooperative Debentures (CDEs)—a new class of investment instruments representing collective strength, trust, and productivity. Until licensing is complete, CDEs can already be purchased over-the-counter (OTC) via allWomen.africa (for women-led cooperatives) and coops.africa (for the broader cooperative network).

Through its features, editorials, and investor education programs, The Cooperator will showcase the CDE as an emerging African asset class, inviting both local and international investors to participate in the cooperative economy.

The Role of ZWMB: Anchor Sponsor and Champion of Women in Cooperative Finance

As the anchor sponsor, the ZWMB plays a pivotal role in nurturing cooperative finance across the continent. Its leadership in supporting women-led cooperatives exemplifies how financial inclusion and gender equality can be powerful engines for national and continental growth.

Through ZWMB’s support, The Cooperator amplifies stories of transformation—highlighting women investors, cooperative entrepreneurs, and communities that are reshaping African finance from the ground up.

ZWMB’s partnership also ensures that The Cooperator aligns with regulatory development, industry standards, and innovations that empower cooperative investors and portfolio managers to confidently participate in this expanding market.

Why Cooperative Finance Matters

Cooperative finance stands at the crossroads of community empowerment and market capitalism, combining social purpose with financial discipline. It channels local savings into productive ventures, builds community wealth, and creates shared prosperity.

By growing cooperative finance as a discipline, The Cooperator envisions a future where cooperatives are not just community savings groups, but recognized participants in formal capital markets—raising funds, issuing securities, and driving economic development with integrity and inclusivity.

A Call to Action

The Cooperator invites all cooperatives, investors, policymakers, and financial institutions to take part in shaping the future of Africa’s cooperative economy. Whether you are an individual investor, a cooperative leader, or a policymaker, this is your platform to learn, connect, and invest in the continent’s most people-centered financial system.

The rise of cooperative finance is Africa’s next investment frontier—and The Cooperator is the voice guiding that journey.
