Chivi Rural District Council is located in Masvingo province in the drought-prone region of the country, north of Mwenezi and west of Masvingo. Much of the District is occupied by subsistence farmers because of low average rainfall. The Government of Zimbabwe has established several small-scale irrigation schemes for the populace to supplement their meagre harvests.

It has got 32 wards, 40,313 households with an average household size of 4.3 The council is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government, mentored by Bikita RDC.
